1. Pandan Chiffon cake - It's pillowy soft, green, coconutty and sweet. What more could you want? Tam Jiak enjoys this light snack with a cup of coffee or tea.
2. Ice Kachang - Ice Kachang literally means 'bean ice' in Malay. It’s become harder to find over the years with the popularity of modern creations like fancy shaved ice and Bingsu. Ice Kachang usually comes with 3 kinds of syrup poured over the crushed ice - pink, green and brown. The brown syrup has a distinct taste of gula melaka (caramel like flavour) while the other 2 colours are just sweet. Atap Chee (palm seed) is considered the 'treat' in this dish as you only get 2 or 3 if you’re lucky. That's why Tam Jiak is holding onto to it so earnestly. Served with red beans, jelly and topped with creamed corn, this simple, colourful dish hits the spot on hot, humid days.
3. Ice Jelly Cocktail - Despite sounding like a happy hour treat, this dessert is completely alcohol-free. Cocktail refers to the menagerie of ingredients inside like peach and pear slices, grapes, papaya and nata de coco. Tam Jiak likes it topped with a maraschino cherry and finished with a squeeze of lime. Making it a refreshing tangy and sweet icy dessert.
4. Chendol - Another icy dessert that's full of coconutty goodness. Shaved ice in a bowl of creamy coconut milk, complete with kidney beans and pandan jelly. Tam Jiak loves the jelly because it looks like little green worms. It tastes a lot better than it sounds though!
